Barcode tags have many uses spanning a variety of applications – tracking tool usage, identifying company inventory, checking out at the grocery store, etc. A wide variety of materials are available for these applications such as: Polyester, anodized aluminum, and even stainless steel, dependent on how they will be used. Each material provides certain benefits that the other materials cannot offer, however, even with the amount of choices available, we still come across some customers that have even more strict requirements for their labels. Environments that deal with high temperatures or exposure to harsh acids and chemicals have been difficult to find a solution for. Luckily, there is a solution that will withstand high temperatures and exposure to these chemicals – Ceramic Barcode Tags!
The Ceramic Barcode Tag above looks like any other ordinary barcode tag. Except, these tags have a base of stainless steel and have the ceramic coating fused to the steel for markings that are permanent! Most ceramic tags are either:
- A thin ceramic material that needs to be fused to glass (not applicable in most situations,) or
- A thin ceramic layer adhered to the top of a stainless steel tag, which allows for peeling or cracking upon impact or high temperatures.
Fusing the ceramic coating to the tag (like the one pictured above) allows the ceramic barcode tag to withstand exposures of up to 1400°F. The coating is sprayed on and baked, just like your high school ceramics class, to provide life long readability and durability. These ceramic tags bring barcoding technology into the harshest environments- In addition to the added heat resistance, the ceramic coating also provides excellent protection against many harsh chemical: Hydrochloric Acid, and Sodium Hydroxide, Hydraulic Fluid, and more. Ceramic Tags are available with holes for riveting, or with tabs for welding on to equipment. Finally, the ceramic tags boast an estimated outdoor service life in excess of 100 years! When choosing which barcoding option is best for YOUR application, we recommend going over the details with a representative. If you have been unable to barcode and identify similar processes in the past, then Ceramic Barcode Tags may be the solution!
